Reverend Marvin Blaylock, Sr.  Pastor/Teacher

Marvin, born one of eleven children to Edward and Evelyn Blaylock on March 1, 1945.

Marvin, is the ‘brother’ of: Ella Jean Jones, Deaconess Annette Dade, Dr. Arlene Blaylock, Shirley Williams (twins) Sis. Rachael &  Sis. Robin, Charles Edward, Roy, and Marvin’s brother and sister who has gone from labor to rest).The Late Sis. Ella Mae Thomas (long-term Secretary of ‘Holy Cross Baptist Church)  and The Late Bro. Harold Blaylock.  

 

Companion & Provider:

Minister Marvin Blaylock is the devoted and loving ‘Husband’ to our First Lady, Sis. Thelma M. (Perkins).

Minister Marvin Blaylock is the proud and caring ‘Father of four’,to  Marvin, Tanya, Tracey and Nina.

Minister Blaylock reminds us continually of  (Psalms 127:3) ‘Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.’. believing GOD’s word and his tender love for children, Minister Blaylock is thrilled to have 14 Grandchildren, and 10  Great- Grand children.

 

Education:

Minister Marvin Blaylock was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System.

completed The Opportunity Industrialization Center  in ‘1965'

Graduated The Bethlehem School of the Bible in 1993

completed The Christian Research and Development Program - Pastor With A Purpose

Employment and Career:

Minister Blaylock is a Retired Carpenter and Contractor from the ‘City of Philadelphia’

Minister Marvin Blaylock joined the United States Army in 1963 and was honorably discharged in 1965.

 

Minister Marvin Blaylock, is the Founder and Director of ‘The Overcomer’s Thru Christ Outreach Ministry at ‘The Veteran’s Administration Hospital of  Philadelphia.

 

Community Affairs

Minister Marvin Blaylock, is actively involved and serves with ‘Imani Anti-Violence Youth (House of UMOJA),  Shepherds In the Street, and The Executive Board of the 34th Wards, 11th Division.

 

Christian Experience:

Minister Blaylock was raised in a Christian Home and was introduced to Christ by his mother, Mother

Evelyn Blaylock.   Minister Blaylock was baptized by Rev. M.L. Gayton, while attending The ‘Metropolitan Baptist Church’.   Minister Blaylock utilizing his gift of music (vocally) ministered with ‘The Metropolitan Baptist Church ‘Male Chorus and ‘M.L. Gayton Chorus.

 

Called:

Upon hearing his call from GOD, Minister Marvin Blaylock joined The Good Samaritan Baptist Church, under the Pastorate of our ‘Founder’ Rev. Walter L. Hackett, here Minister Blaylock was nurtured; and received training as a ‘Deacon,’ Minister Blaylock formerly served as ‘Superintendent of Sunday School’, and ‘Director’ of our ‘Vacation Bible School’.  On April 14, 1991 Minister Blaylock was licensed to preach the Gospel by Rev. Walter L. Hackett. On June 15, 1997 Minister Blaylock was ordained by ‘The West Philadelphia and Vicinity Ministerial Forum’ Here,  Minister Blaylock served faithfully as ‘Secretary, Vice President and (2007-2008) President.

On March 3, 2002 Minister Blaylock was unanimously voted Interim Pastor of The Good Samaritan Baptist Church’.

Leadership:

On May 18, 2003 Minister Blaylock was installed as Pastor of The Good Samaritan Baptist Church.

Under Pastor Blaylock’s ‘leadership’ the following Ministries has been ‘birthed’:

‘Housing Project for Hurricane Katrina Victims of New Orleans, LA’.

            ‘Brown’s Shop Rite, Can Goods  & Save A-Tape  - Participant

And A ‘Global Extension of Helping Hands’, supplying the needs of those from the streets of ‘West Philadelphia to Monrove,  Liberia, West Africia.’


Minister Marvin Blaylock, dynamically graces us with his ‘tenor voice’ as he leads, ‘The Good Samaritan Baptist Church Male Chorus’ with “He Knows Just How Much You Can Bear.’ and ‘Farther Along’ to name a few. Minister Blaylock’s favorite Sermonic Hymn is: ‘Christ Is All’, Minister Marvin Blaylock, Pastor/Teacher, Motivator, Encourager  and   most of all is a humble servant of the Lord, whose chosen life scripture is: GOD is our refuge and strength a very present help in trouble. Psalms 46:1.
